Simple Debt Advice Tips that Work
Jun 23, 2011 Many people these days have find themselves in debt and unsure about the future. Chronic debt can make life miserable and people can lose hope of ever finding a way out of their problems. The good news is that there is almost always a solution that will work no matter how bad debt problems have become. Here are just a few simple tips that really work when it comes to clearing debts.
- One of the most effective things that you can do is get out a pen and paper and create a workable budget. Just putting things in black and white will do wonders for making things a lot clearer. If you are honest with your figures you should be able to figure out a budget that will allow you to pay back more money then you are currently managing.
- When it comes to credit card debt one of the keys to success is always paying back more than the minimum repayment. This is because this amount usually doesn’t pay much more than the interest you owe. If you stick to minimum repayments you are likely to be in debt for years and you will end up paying a lot of interest during this time.
- If you are serious about clearing debts you will probably need to cut back on your outgoings. This does not mean that you have to live like a hermit, but there are likely many non-essentials that you can do without. Do allow yourself the occasional treat because that is what life is all about, but try to cut out as many non-essentials as you possibly can.
- Make a decision to refrain from any impulse purchases until your debt is cleared. One way to strengthen this resolve is by not bringing your credit cards with you everywhere you go. It is a well known fact that people are far more likely to impulsive buy with a credit card than they are with cash.
- If you owe a lot of money to a variety of creditors it may be time to consider a consolidation loan. This is money that you borrow from a creditor to pay off all your debts. The advantage of doing this is that you will then only have one creditor to worry about and it should mean that you will be paying back a lot less interest. There are now many companies offering this type of service so make sure that you stick to a reputable one.
- Do not consider borrowing money from predatory lenders. These people will often turn up on your doorstep offering to lend you money in the form of consolidation loans or other types of loans. These loan sharks will then demand extortionate interest repayments that can keep people in debt for life. These people tend to lack scruples and have been known use violence and intimidation on lenders who are having problems making repayments. Don’t allow these people into your life no matter how desperate you are to clear your debts.
